Alyssa Martin is a Toronto based choreographer working under the umbrella of her company, Rock Bottom Movement. Alyssa founded the company in 2012 and since its inception has created over 20 dance pieces, including six full length works. She consistently strives to create work that encapsulates, all at once, the sensationalism of a David Bowie performance, the satire of a well-done Woody Allen impression, and the cheap yet irresistible humour of the Marx Brothers (it's an ongoing feat).
Her choreography has been presented at the Winchester Street Theatre, Dancemakers Centre for Creation, the Shenkman Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Hamilton Fringe, the SpringWorks Festival in Stratford, DanceMatters: Risky Business and Rebel Yells, the Toronto Fringe, RayD-Ance Gala, 60x60, with the Garage Collective and in many parks and urban spaces in the city.
She is a teacher and guest choreographer at Ryerson University, and has been a guest artist for the Quinte Ballet School,Toronto District School Board and Young People's Theatre. Her first short dance film, Wanderland, was released in the winter of 2015. Alyssa has been featured as an emerging talent in The Dance Current, invited to present work at the Women in Dance festival in Louisiana and is the recipient of the Kenny Pearl Award for her choreographic initiative. She is a graduate of Ryerson University’s Dance Program with a BFA Honors. You can learn more about her work & company at: www.rockbottommovement.com
