Simcoe Contemporary Dancers presents the world premiere of Cumulonimbus and the Fable Keepers, a full-evening work by choreographer and costume designer Susan Kendal.
Kendal has created a magical, visceral world that exists above the clouds -- somewhere between the stratosphere and the stars -- where the Fable Keepers dwell. These timeless beings, librarians of human fables, parables and fairytales, are charged with gathering and holding the threads of instructive stories that people weave to pass on wisdom, morality, caution and common sense.
Themes of love, loyalty, loss, caution, choice, consequence and courage are explored through an ever-evolving pallet of garments and gestures, worn and exchanged throughout the work. The choreography and costuming mimic the movement of clouds, air, and the stories we remember, create, adapt and transmit.
