Ecofest 2012 - by Christie Roberts

On June 9th and 10th, Barrie’s third annual ecology festival could be found nestled throughout Heritage Park, along the gleaming shores of Kempenfelt Bay.
“Ecofest” offered festival-goers a variety of community resources, artisans, raw foods, wellness, and sustainable living ideas. The Simcoe Contemporary Dancers were among the participating community artists. The dance company could be found performing on a beautiful rock platform, overlooking a gorgeous pond, with a gazebo and Kempenfelt Bay as the backdrop.

Water, our all important life source, was a key topic expressed throughout Ecofest. The Simcoe Contemporary Dancers, through their performance of “Sea Anenome”, brought this theme to life. It was a perfect pairing. Interestingly, it was the Barrie waterfront that originally inspired artistic director Sarah Lochhead, informing her choreography of this piece.

You can see them perform "Sea Anemone" as part of Lawn Chair Luminata's Serendipity Princess  arts cruise on Wednesday July 18!  For more information check out our Upcoming Events page.
