National Dance Week - Day 8: International Dance Day - by Christie Roberts
Today is the 30th anniversary of International Dance Day. This day has been celebrated annually on April 29th since 1982.
I am working on my second decade as a dancer, and surprisingly I only became aware of International Dance Day in more recent years. With the assistance of the internet, this year I have learned more about this day than I ever have before. If I had to summarize the intent of the day, it would be - to increase the visibility of the world of dance to all people, as well as unifying the broad diversity of dancers through their common language of movement. People around the world will be celebrating, and marking the day in a variety of ways.
Through social media, reality TV, and our local communities, we get to experience how others engage in the day.
How will you spend the day?
