In process: Woven (Post 9 - Sarah Lochhead)

Several years ago I saw an exhibit at the Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto of  called "Battleground: War Rugs from Afghanistan."  The images woven into the rugs spoke volumes of the time and climate in which they were created. Some of the rugs had images of bombs, guns and helicopters - others depicted historical moments of political figures.   One that stands out in my mind was a woven image of a USA city skyline (I think it was Seattle). The curators notes mentioned that it is unlikely that the weaver had even been to this city and it was copied from a postcard that had been sent by a family member.  A clear reminder that art is how we tell our story. It is how we cope with turmoil, express our daily experience and how we can also find escape.
