Questions about the audition?

What do I need to bring to the audition?
When you register, by emailing, you will receive a response with a registration form and participation waiver. Complete these and bring them with you on June 14th. The registration form mentions including a photo. Please note this can be a casual picture you or a friend took– it is just to help put a face to a name.

What should I wear?
Arrive warmed up and dressed professionally in dance or fitness attire. You may choose to wear ballet shoes, jazz shoes, dance paws or bare feet.

What is the structure of the audition?
The audition will consist of a modern dance based technique class, movement improvisation, repertoire and a brief interview. Sign in is at 12:30pm and the audition begins at 1:00pm. Depending on the number of participants, a preliminary cut may take place following the technique class (approx 2:30pm) and/or prior to interviews (approx. 3:30pm). The structure is subject to change based on the number of participants.

Who is adjudicating the Audition?
The adjudicators are Sarah Lochhead (Artistic Director), and two to three colleagues who will potentially be choreographing on the company in the near future.

Is there an audition fee?
NO. A dance audition is like a job interview so you are NOT required to pay a fee. In fact, as our way of saying thanks, all audition participants will receive an exclusive offer for workshops/classes held by Simcoe Contemporary Dancers this summer.

How do I get to the Tranter Institute?
Barrie Transit
Go Transit

I live outside of Simcoe County. Should I bother attending?
Priority will be given to those who reside in within geographical borders of Simcoe County. That being said, the first cut will be made solely on how you move. This prioritizing comes into play in the second and/or final cut. Auditions are a good experience and a FREE dance class. It is also a great chance to meet other artists in the area and network.

I am interested but I cannot make it to the audition. Can I submit a video?
It is preferable to attend the audition in person, however arrangements can be made to send a video. Please contact us via email for details.
